BECAUSE I SAID SO
I live an exciting life – “yes, I do. I am not exhibiting hubris,[GU1] nor will I apologize for the declaration.” My declaration is because I said so, I live it, and it is not based on anyone’s parameters but my own. I refuse to look at others’ lives as interesting and mine as dull.
Last Monday, I got out of bed and went through the usual early morning routine. It was nine degrees when I got in the car for the seven-minute drive to the gym. Returning to my humble abode, I threw one load of clothes in the dryer and another in the washer. I spent the remainder of the morning and a portion of the afternoon trying to reproduce my likeness as a toddler on paper from a photograph. Off I went after that to spend three hours returning Christmas decorations to their eleven-month residences. I ate leftovers for dinner and returned to the pencil drawing before retiring for the night. I didn’t talk to anyone outside my house until my sister called in the evening. I responded to three text messages but didn’t initiate any. “Whoopee!” Exciting stuff. What an amazingly exciting fun-filled day.
The excitement was jumpstarted by a comment from a reader of the morning’s blog, “Cheers – spiraling upward.” It continued with a discovery found in the photo that was occupying my attention…my small baby fat hand was curled in a fist with one finger pointing downward. I have looked at the photo most of my life – exciting stuff – noticing a new detail about the ordinary. Storing Christmas decorations is tedious at best, however, the excitement-meter hit a new level when I found the top of my favorite water bottle lying at the bottom of one of the storage containers. Something lost was found.
As you read the description of the day, you might have questioned my declarative statement. This is a normal day for me.
I have experienced grief, loss, and a fair amount of sickness. But joy, happiness, and peace have accompanied me as well. I said, “I live an exciting life.” I didn’t say, “I live a perfect life.” What is perfect? What is exciting? What causes me to jump up and down with glee might cause you to look at me in disbelief and say, “REALLY?”
I love people and sharing my love. I love travel because I always learn something. I cherish my relationship with the creator and all that has been created. I love time alone, discovering new things and finding lost things. I live my exciting life with hands and heart open to the possibility that something wonderful is going to happen.
I am no better or more blessed or more favored than you. Declare with me over your life, “I live an exciting life.” Now, live like it is. I am excited for YOU.
PONDER THIS THOUGHT --- Your life – imperfect and raw, beautiful, and warm, - own it, live it.

This reminded me, how exciting life is and how blessed I am to have this life.
Thank you! B
