DESIGNER

PRACTICE: What are 3 three things that you consider essential to your happiness.

I love to sew (as in making my own clothing). People who have come into my life in the last few years would not know that. I don’t get to do it often anymore. When I do get to sew, I am known for taking bits and pieces from various patterns to design my own unique dress/top etc. I have a lot of unfinished pieces, but my completed pieces are my personal creations. If asked to reproduce them, I would be hard pressed to do so. I start with an end in mind and find the right pieces and parts to make it so. Sometimes it is as I envisioned. Other times, it falls short. Nevertheless, it is mine - I created it, I own it, and I wear it. I do so with swagger and accessorized to my own perfection.

Along those same lines, I read a quote that stated, “Happiness is not something you postpone for the future, it is something you design for the present,” John Rohn.

So how does one design the garment of happiness? I believe my example of sewing informs the answer – we all want to be happy. First step, I alone am the designer and builder of my happy garment. Secondly, my happy garment can’t be made using the cookie cutter pattern of someone else. Third, most likely the happy garment will be made of bits and pieces taken from a variety of places and people uniquely woven together just for me. Once it is constructed it is my awesome responsibility to furnish it with people and things that are complementary and make it even better. If by chance I should find that I have made a mistake in the construction or accessorizing my happy garment – it is my responsibility to rid my happy garment of the mistake.

Take Charge of your happiness – design it - own it – NO ONE can do it for you!

Psalm 144:15 and consider reading The Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

PONDER THIS THOUGHT – Happiness is an individual responsibility and goal.
