NOT TOO MUCH
I want to have a blogger to reader conversation about cashews. Why cashews? They are a prime example of good nourishment. This tree nut is packed with protein, filled with healthy minerals, vitamins and fats which means they are good for the brain, management of blood sugar levels, may boost metabolism, curb the appetite, faci
litate weight loss, promote healthy vision, promote healthy skin, hair, muscles and bones, and help maintain heart health… too many words in one sentence isn’t it? Everyone should eat more cashews. STOP! Not so fast. One ounce – 18 nuts – a whopping 190 calories. Everyone should eat cashews – in moderation.
Our nourishment should come from many sources, and it is more than food. We are fortunate to live in a country where there is an abundance of food to nourish, though not always readily available. The same is true for other aspects of nourishment – available and sometimes not accepted.
Where are you nourished? I freely admit that I am nourished by love and support freely given by friends and family. I will admit that at times it is like eating too many cashews. A visit to a museum or a walk in a beautiful garden – nourishing. The weekly wise counsel served on Sunday morning at my church is nourishing. A conversation with my therapist squeezes nourishing thoughts out of me. You already know that writing and painting provides nourishment to this hungry and thirsting soul. It comes in many forms from many sources, even negative sources. The supply is endless if I accept it.
The mighty cashew can play a significant role in the quest for a healthy diet. However too many can be problematic to those prone to kidney stones or with digestive disorders and can contribute to weight gain. Too much of anything leads to a possible imbalance, be it physical or emotional.
We honor our good with the recognition that nourishment can come from anywhere. All negative is not bad – all positive is not good…a negative can drive one to a positive behavior - positive things can have a negative effect when overdone.
I love cashews. I don’t eat them every day because eighteen is never enough.
PONDER THIS THOUGHT--- Worse than Too Much, is not knowing what too much is.
