THRESHOLD
We are standing on the threshold of the last quarter of this year. The door is cracked open, and we can see the wall of the end of 2024. What do you see? It is time to take inventory of where you are and to reflect on where and how you will reach the end of the year.
True or False: My life is defined by the opinion that I hold of it. Changing my opinion of my life, changes my life’s trajectory. Self-scrutiny and self-appreciation are equally important and good practices. Self-appraisal is the bedrock of self-worth. Your answers do not matter. There isn’t a right or wrong answer. My goal is to encourage you take an inventory of you and your thoughts right now and these are thought germinators.
I am currently self-scrutinizing myself around worry and fear. To be clear – if you want to know what you believe about something versus what you wished you believed about it, try self-scrutinizing. For example, I find myself feeling more anxious and concerned about my personal safety and that of my loved ones than I can ever remember. My head is telling me to relax but my heart is saying, “How?” when all around me terrible things are happening to good people. Formulating the words to express myself to you is helping to shift my thoughts. I appreciate the gift of common sense that I have been given. Common sense tells me to practice vigilance, to practice presence where I am present. Simply stated, true presence means being aware of what is happening around me. Knowing minimizes the need to be anxious and worried.
So, what about you? What will your inventory reveal? Let me help you out with a list that you might want to explore. I have taken a personal inventory of some of these, and some are on the “to do “list. Play and prayer life - Ample or low inventory? Work life – over or understocked? Mental or emotional state – drained or healthy? Health and physical wellness – skimpy or adequate? Inner and outer beauty – embracing originality or self- depreciating? Continue with your own list, these are thought starters.
The one thing of which I am certain, I can identify the plots and patterns that I wish I would maintain or improve when I conduct a good inventory. I count my virtues, and I see my value. When I take note of my faults and imperfections, my perception of self begins to change. As the perception of me changes, I edge closer to being the person that I am designed to be.
I don’t believe that I was designed to live a life of worry and fear even if the world around me seems to dictate that reaction. I am aligning my head and my heart.
Can’t do this on your own, I am sure a friend will help!
