VALUABLE POSSESSION

VALUABLE POSSESSION

It was Thursday morning following a milestone birthday. Born on a Tuesday, the 327th day of the year, I had already lived 25,573 days, 3653 weeks, and slept about 24 years. I am a baby boomer and were I a dog, I would be 490 years old. All these stats are related to time. Why am I writing about time – AGAIN? It is the most precious commodity that you and I possess.

Time is the one thing that was bestowed upon me at conception to use as I see fit. My time is more precious than antimatter  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antimatter, molecules that do not appear to exist in a stable form in the universe. Humans do all sorts of things with precious things. We store them in safe places, display them, pass them down from one generation to another, acquire more of them to build a collection, and/or appreciate and admire their significance. How does this relate to our most precious commodity?

Time cannot be saved in a safe or safety deposit box. To seek a safe space for time is futile. One may be able to display the results of an accomplishment resulting from the use of time but not able to display the time. The wisdom that was gained from living can be passed through generations but not time. Time cannot be acquired or collected from another source or person. One can appreciate time, but I don’t know how to admire time. Time is the precious commodity given to us to use to love and address all that has been created.

Time is mono-directional, forward. Once a moment exist, it becomes a memory. For this reason and many more than I can enumerate here, use of this highly valuable commodity should not be taken lightly. Use time to protect and invest in the other precious commodities of life. For me these are my core beliefs, health, family, freedom, worship, and financial stability.

A milestone birthday is not a guarantee that one recognizes the value of time. One begins to fully live when time’s value starts to come into focus. Personally, my response to questions such as, “Do you have time for this or that?” have taken on a new tone. Yes, I may have the time, but do I want to use my precious commodity in that way?

Time’s one way movement means once given away, it can never be reclaimed.

I have decided to rise and retire thirty minutes earlier for the next forty days, using the additional awake time for more introspection before engaging in physical activity for the improvement of my body. I am investing a bit more of my precious commodity in me. We shall see what the return on the investment is.

PONDER THIS THOUGHT --- Time management is a worthwhile selfish act.
